Whitening works by increasing the tooth‘s permeability to oxygen which then breaks down stain molecules. Your teeth can whiten up to 16 shades. Results vary, but if used correctly all teeth will whiten dramatically. Avoiding coffee, red wine, smoking etc. will greatly improve your final result of cosmetic dentistry or teeth whitening treatment. Whitening gels will not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings.
Is it safe?
Yes. Having your teeth whitened under the supervision of a dentist is completely safe. Some people experience sensitivity when whitening their teeth but we can provide you with a desensitising serum to help.
How long does it take?
Usually 14 days – however you can stop at any point if you are happy with the shade of your teeth.
ICON White Spot Treatment
ICON is a revolutionary product that quickly and painlessly removes white spots from teeth. This treatment can usually be performed on the same day and the results are instant.
What causes white spots?
White spots are very common and can be the result of flurosis (caused by a high intake of fluoride when the adult teeth are developing) Decalcification (usually seen after braces are removed in areas that were not cleaned thoroughly enough) or Trauma, particularly when the teeth were first developing.
How long does it last?
The results are permanent – but you do need to maintain a high standard of oral care to keep them sparkling white afterwards!
Dental veneers are a cosmetic dentistry procedure to help improve the colour, shape and position of teeth, including chipped teeth. A dental veneer is made from a thin layer of porcelain fitted over the front facing surface of tooth.
An easy way to explain veneers is to think of false nails! Picture a set of acrylics, where fake nails are placed on top of your own – simple!
Once fitted, a veneer should last for many years, but just like normal teeth, they can be broken or chipped. Like many things, how long they last depends very much on how well you look after them. Regular trips to the dentist will help as we can detect problems early before it is too late.
It is really important that you consider the long term commitment and costs that come along with veneers. No matter how well you look after them they will not last forever, and it you are in your teens or twenties this could mean having the entire set replaced once, twice, or even more.

How much do they cost?
The cost can vary, but as a guide usually £500 per tooth.
How are veneers fitted?
- Diagnosis and treatment planning. This first step involves active participation between you and Dr Rez. When you come to your first appointment, it is really helpful if you bring a list of all your concerns written down. That way, we can address each issue together one by one and formulate a plan that tackles each and every concern.
- During your first appointment Dr Rez will examine your teeth and may also take X-rays and impressions of your mouth and teeth if necessary.
- Preparation. In order to fit a veneer on the surface, the enamel of your existing tooth needs to be trimmed to create space. In most cases this is only a millimetre or less and this procedure rarely requires local anaesthetic. Dr Rez will then make a model or impression of your teeth which will be sent to a dental laboratory to create your veneers. It usually takes at least a week for the veneers to be made and returned to the surgery.
- Bonding. Before the dental veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth, Dr Rez will check the size, shape and colour matches perfectly. Your teeth will then be cleaned, polished and etched (roughens the surface to allow for a stronger bonding process). A glue cement is applied to the veneer which is then placed on your tooth. Once in it’s ideal position, a light is used to activate chemicals in the cement which cause it to harden very quickly. Finally, any excess cement will be removed and small adjustments may be made to make sure the veneers meet together with your other teeth perfectly when you bite down or chew.
I went to see Dr. Rez for some teeth whitening. I have really bad white spots on my teeth from too much fluoride from when I was a kid and he offered me this exciting new treatment called ICON. It completely removed the white spots from my teeth and I’m honestly so much more confident now because of it. He and his team are really lovely and welcoming. I would definitely recommend going to see him if you’re looking for a dentist as he honestly wants to give his patients the best experience possible.
